The WAAW STEM Summit is an immersive experience to empower African girls to develop vision and possibilities, and shape mindsets. It brings together young women in STEM across Africa to learn, build, reflect, and rise.

It’s not one where we just teach codes or science, but rather where we build leadership, cultivate confidence, and convert ideas into actions. With this summit, we are modeling excellence. We are showing African girls what it means to redefine possibilities and break barriers.

And as we gather again, this time in Kenya, we know one thing for sure: we are not waiting for change, we are becoming it.

Past Participants Impact

Jessica Austine — 2022 Fellows Summit Participant

Jessica graduated in 2024 from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), and today works as a Programs and Administrative Associate at the WAAW Foundation.

She joined the Fellows Summit in 2022 as a young scholar with big dreams. Since then, her journey has been one of leadership, growth, and purpose. Jessica started a STEM Chapter at FUTO that impacted dozens of secondary school girls, and then joined WAAW as an intern, leading up to her current involvement as a staff. Jessica embodies what it means to rise and reach back.

Through the WAAW Foundation, she found not only financial support, but also a platform to lead and serve. Today, she’s giving back meaningfully to the same mission that once supported her, and is inspiring a new generation of African girls to pursue STEM and thrive. Jessica reminds us that empowered girls become transformational women.

Eunice Adekola — 2022 Fellows Summit Participant

Eunice graduated in 2024 with First Class Honours from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Ajayi Crowther University. She is currently serving her country through the NYSC scheme while pursuing scholarship opportunities for graduate studies. She works as an ICT Intern with Oildata Wireline Services (Oida Energy).

Her time with the WAAW Foundation began as a scholar, but the experience went far beyond financial support. At the 2022 Fellows Summit, Eunice encountered powerful voices that ignited the passion to encourage more girls to enter STEM fields.

Eunice continues to thrive and pay it forward, committed to raising the next generation of women in STEM. Her story is a testament to the kind of impact WAAW is making in Africa.

Eddicia Benya — 2024 Fellows Summit Participant

Eddicia is currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering in Sierra Leone. Recently, she participated in a field trip to the Government Technical Institute (GTI) in Ferry Junction, Freetown, where she gained hands-on experience in refrigeration, air conditioning, and automotive systems. She also competed in a renewable energy project challenge, where her team presented a prototype wind turbine designed to serve off-grid communities — a practical solution with great potential for local impact.

Outside the classroom, Eddicia is actively exploring collaboration with the Sierra Leone Women Engineers Institute to amplify outreach to schools and inspire more girls in STEM through her WAAW Chapter.

Eddicia credits the WAAW Foundation and the Fellows Summit for expanding her knowledge, confidence, and vision. The Summit’s sessions on turbines directly contributed to her project’s success, while the mentorship and network she gained continue to fuel her growth as a STEM changemaker in Africa.
