Henriette Ineza
University: University of Rwanda, Rwanda
Degree Program: Bachelor’s in Aquaculture and Fisheries Management
Henriette Ineza is an analytical aquaculture and fisheries management student who spent her early academic years feeling alienated by science fields, watching male students take over laboratory environments while the girls stayed quiet. Refusing to let self-doubt dictate her future, Henriette found her confidence through intensive research into aquatic life and the delicate balancing acts of underwater ecosystems. Today, she is a vocal advocate for women in laboratory spaces. As a WAAW Scholar, she is using her deep dive into fisheries biology to pioneer community-based food security models, using her academic journey as living proof to show young girls in Rwanda that scientific experimentation belongs to them.
