WAAW Foundation had her first online Teachers Training Conference in partnership with Global School Program on the 15th and 17th of April, 2020. The Training took place on Zoom with which there were two(2) batches.
It started by Ebele Agu, vice president of WAAW Foundation introduced Zoom to the teachers, a web-based video conferencing tool with a local, desktop client and a mobile app that allows users to meet online, with or without video. She explained to the teacher’s ways on how to create an account on Zoom, she talked about its advantages and how it can be used in the classroom. She also talked about the use of Google Classroom and Nearpod. She demonstrated to the teachers how to create an account and how to create, distribute, and grade assignments in a paperless way on Google classroom. She also showed the teachers how to share files with their students. With Nearpod she showed the teachers ways on how to engage their students with interactive activities and games and she demonstrated how teachers can connect their students through collaborative discussions and gain instant insight into the student learning through formative assessments.
Lucy Ikpesu, Programs Manager talked about project-based learning using hands-on activities like creating hydro-turbine and interactive games using Arduino, try electrical engineering activities like creating electricity using solar panel and Arduino. She also encouraged and advised teachers to create an engaging curriculum for students during this pandemic. She also introduced the WAAW Foundation’s online free learning resources for both teachers and students which covers areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), coding, and programming lesson plans. She showed the teachers how to access free online learning resources.
Susan Ödere, Digital Marketer spoke on the use of PDF Elements. She talked about its benefits and how it can be used in the classroom and how It helps students to read, take notes, and convert PDF easily. She displayed how to PDF compresses large files such as assignments and study notes for easy sharing. She also talked about how to fill and sign on a form using PDF. She also spoke on the advantages of PDF Elements such as Graphic integrity, editing, integration of various types of content like text, images or videos, convenience, security, and compatibility. She also mentioned 24 PDF tools teachers can use such as pdf Online Reader, PDF Buddy, PDFelement 6, PDF Zorro, PDF converter Ultimate just mention a few.
Emmanuel Emechete, a Global school advocate at Global Schools Program explained what Sustainable Development Goals and how it stands to promote a long-term approach to addressing global challenges. He also talked about how teachers can create curriculums that will engage their students during the pandemic.
