Lagos, Nigeria, July 27, 2017 – WAAW Foundation, a leading provider of STEM and Digital Literacy Education, and proponent of gender parity, is pleased to announce its recently awarded grant by the Aspire Coronation Trust (ACT) Foundation. These funds will support the launch of 30-week Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) and digital literacy workshop for secondary school students and STEM teachers.
The overall objective of the STEM and digital literacy training is to increase the number and strengthen the capacity of Nigerian girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) discipline by providing them with world-class digital literacy and technology training that will enhance their economic capacity and motivate girls to employ technology to advance self-learning, access resources and solve problems in their communities. In addition, this program will help teachers understand the importance of STEM and digital literacy in education and economy so as to embrace strategies of implementing Technology focused lessons in their classrooms and attract more girls into STEM discipline.
The long term benefit of this one-year program is the economic empowerment for girls through increased awareness and participation in the digital and technology economy. This will contribute tremendously to increase the work force of women involved in technology innovation, enhance employability skills for women who use the STEM & digital skills to improve buy modafinil visa access to information, capital and job readiness, ultimately reducing poverty in Nigeria.
Participants will be provided with basic computer programming skills which are economically viable and help open opportunities for them to take up entry-level STEM related jobs with or without further training. The program will promote the use of easily available and affordably local materials in classroom, to facilitate innovation and serve as a model for other organizations and the public school system to emulate towards supporting STEM engagement for secondary girls.
