WHERE DOES THE MYTH LIMITING WOMEN FROM CAREER EXCELLENCE COME FROM?

WAAW is giving opportunities to young girls to express themselves in the field of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), connecting them with the best opportunities in Africa and beyond.

WAAW 2017 fellows: scholars from different higher institutions across Africa who won WAAW Foundation’s fellowship opportunity.

WAAW believes women can thrive in tech, if only they are given the same opportunity as their male counterpart. A woman has a lot of responsibilities and there’s no shying away from them. From being a girl child, an average African girl shoulders a number of responsibilities; she is told how she needs to watch out for the family, be domestic enough and still learn to go to school or maybe get to learn a trade. She is being prepared to be a mother right from the time she is conscious of whom she is and made to understand that everyone in the family needs one form of care or the other and it has to come from her.

Many young African girls will be seen backing their baby brothers, something boys won’t do, the girl child cooks, washes and still competes in skills acquisition with her male counterpart either in school or trade. This explains why “it is easier for the girl child to multitask, buy modafinil wholesale think faster and be broad minded”. So where does the myth limiting women from career excellence come from? She has been excellent all her life, what will be different in career? She multitasks and gets result against all odds, so what’s different in any career she has to build?

WAAW Foundation understands these facts very much and has been working to ensure that in the next decade, women innovators in technology will have as much access and bring forward as many solutions to global challenges just like their male counterparts.

Through our WAAW University fellowship programs, WAAW Foundation seeks to rewrite the future as the past is behind us already, this program empower girls by inculcating in them, the sense of participation and contribution to problem solving, entrepreneurship, technology innovation and economic development in their communities.  It also strengthens the girl child’s ability to multitask and take on STEM careers thereby enabling them to blossom and create a better future.

WAAW fellows are the next great women in tech. Watch out for WAAW fellows in the next decade, no doubt they will be ruling in the world of Technology. For inquiries on how to become a WAAW fellow or participate in any of our programs, contact us via info@waawfoundation.org.
